When the entire state was struck with the terror of transmission of Corona Virus and the economy became stagnant, people were dying out of hunger. Even though not uniform, community Kitchens in many places came up as a savior. The youth of Bengal emerged as the soldiers of combating the virus and the corollary stagnancy of the economy, by feeding the people in need.
In myriads of places, the initiative of community Kitchen was undertaken. Food was cooked in bulk for many just like any hotel or family occasion. The difference is, as the name itself suggests, the food was given to the people for free with the purpose of not letting the people of the ‘universal’ human community die out of hunger.
Left and other democratic organizations took up the role in the city and beyond. One of the most significant run community Kitchens was undertaken in Jadavpur and Baghajatin. Many people supported the cause and came up as a helping hand to such a service.
At times of crisis, when the government lacked effective methods to solve it, social works were indeed an important role to come up with as evident from these Community Kitchens. The food prepared here was made with love for mass and as a safeguard of the backward strata of our society.
Thus, establishing the fact that food being the basic need of every individual should be attained on an immediate basis especially during the time of pandemics. The welfare of the people lies in the supply of basic needs to the deprived, and that’s when the society can rise above all miseries, equally participating in the way of living in co-existence.
