Spread the love

The very old passion and love for football have remained constant for the city. The overwhelming joy and excitement tend to spread across the narrow lanes, tea stalls, offices, neighbourhood clubs and so on. People debating over the phone, fighting and quarrelling in the streets over one single context: Who is going to win the Derby, East Bengal or Mohun Bagan.

The fans of East Bengal, with yellow and red coloured Jersey, shouting slogans everywhere possible, “Bangal mora, East Bengal, lota mora, East Bengal, jitbe kara, East Bengal…”. On the other side, the fans of Mohun Bagan club, with attire in green and maroon, reverts back “Amader surjo merun, narir jog sobuj ghase”. Indeed, with every Derby, the city gets attractive with extra lights and colours just like any other festivals. The colours of red, yellow, green splashing here and there. With graffitis by the roadsides and crowd watching the match in one single TV in the neighbourhood tea stall together, is something the city ought to retain.

Tensions all around. Who will win? And, finally coming back together as Kolkata, the city where every community can inhibit that is very evident from the posters in the stadium show, ‘rokto diye kena mati, kagoj diye noy’ to protest against the CAA and NRC.
