Five New terms emerging in the colleges of Kolkata!

Linguistics in Kolkata has always shown a variety. Sometimes, youngsters even merge up English and Bengali language, clubbing it under a category with a new name, called ‘Benglish’. Well, you might feel weird to hear certain terms that are used by the youths of Kolkata, and you might not find them in any dictionary, but once you get accustomed to these terms, you would as well take part in spreading it like a contagious disease.

 

1. ‘Loop’

This term has a deep connection with Shakespeare’s  ‘As you like it’. Indeed, the term intends to imply a lot of things depending on the interpretation laid out in a particular context. Sometimes it means a circle, certainly a group of friends or friend circle, sometimes it implies danger or a problem, and sometimes used as an adjective to define sometimes fanatic.

 

2. ‘Scene’

This term is definitely relevant in the normal lingual connotation, but the use here is certainly not the same. College students in Kolkata usually refer to a certain plan of hanging out with friends or a date, as a scene.

 

3. ‘Cazz’

Well, while hearing it, you would try to understand what is this exactly. You have never heard this term anywhere before. The term regards a state of ignorance when someone is making you bore, maybe sometimes as a mechanism to calm yourself down or ‘Chill-out’ in other words, and sometimes as ‘casual’ as it is.

 

4. ‘Chap’

This is certainly not a chicken chap or mutton chap being talked about. This term means a deep-down affection for someone, usually used when you are seeing or crushing on someone.

 

5. ‘Chokh’

This isn’t any chess match but a way you flirt with someone.
