Spread the love

If you are confused as to how to spend your winter break in Kolkata this year, Saras Mela is definitely one place you should consider visiting. Organized at the Bidhannagar – New Town Mela grounds, the Saras Mela exhibits handpicked handicraft items from artists all over the country and state. Artisans from different districts of Bengal, as well as from different states of the country, gather here to showcase a delightful combination of items.

Things You Should Look Out For:

Clothes:

Although malls and shopping complexes offer a wide variety of designer clothes, few of them would have clothes made with so much love and care, as the ones found here at the Saras Mela. Clothes sold at this fair are mostly handspun, and designed by indigenous artisans from all over the country. Look out for clothes that are embroidered and/or hand-painted: you will be hard-pressed to find them elsewhere.

Household Decorations:

Looking for a new table lamp or a new flower vase? Consider getting ones made of bamboo or cane, designed and polished by hand. Or, how about strawflowers? You can get near about everything here, including decorations made out of rice, or scales of fishes! Get some household decorations from this fair, and you can be sure that it is one of a kind.

Food:

Any fair in Bengal is incomplete without its food choices. Saras Mela, too, brings with it a host of different specialties from different states of India and districts of Bengal, at a very affordable price. Be it a steaming plate of authentic Darjeeling momo or Rajasthani Dal Baati Churma, you can enjoy delicacies from stalls put up by different parts of the country.

Overall, Saras Mela 2020-21 is a must-visit for everyone who enjoys discovering various undiscovered parts of the country. Spend a wonderful winter day here with your friends and family. The fair has started from 23rd December 2020 and will continue till 3rd January 2021.
