In the afternoon of 4th September 2018, Kolkata’s one of the busiest Majerhat bridge collapsed and killed 2 people and makes the lives of daily commuters of Taratala, Behala, Thakurpukur, Joka difficult. The state government creates a makeshift bailey bridge to ease the problems within 30 days after the accident.
After demolishing the remaining almost 5 decades old bridge, it took more than 2 years to complete the new bridge with all the modern technology and named Jai Hind Bridge after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to mark his 125th birth anniversary. The Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt. Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the newly constructed Jai Hind Bridge on 4th December 2020 at 5 PM.
The newly constructed bridge is 650 meters in length and at the cost of Rs. 200 Crores, the responsibility of construction was given to PWD. After the opening of this Bridge, it will ease the lives of the public from both sides.
