Nostalgia returns, the silver screen of Metro cinema returns. The cinema hall, built by the first Scottish architect in Calcutta, closed several years ago. A shopping mall was built in that place. Holding the hand of the inox chain, the silver screen returned and the cinema hall was opened.

Kolkata’s Elite Cinema Hall, Metro, was closed in 2011. All the city dwellers were upset at the news of the closure of the iconic cinema hall. But at the end of the edition, the Metro Cinema Hall reopened with nostalgia. Designed by Thomas Lamb, the Metro Cinema Hall was the first Scottish-style architecture in Calcutta.

On the advice of architect Subir Kumar Basu, the Metro Realty Group decided to open the auditorium with two screens and 422 seats.

This theatre was first opened in 1935. The movie ‘Way Out West’ was first screened here. Metro was the first modern or ‘elite’ theatre in Kolkata. Then in 1940, the lighthouse was built. Six years later, in 2011, the theatre closed. Leaving the main cinema hall unchanged, the rest became the Central Shopping Complex.

The Heritage Commission of the Calcutta Municipality decided in 2012 that the Metro would be converted into a multiplex. However, this time it is not just a single screen, this time it is ‘Metro Inox’ by joining hands with Inox. The nostalgia of 8 years ago awoke anew in the bosom of Dharmatala.

Cafe Unwind is here for diners. Anyone can enjoy delicious food without watching movies. So not only movie lovers, but also food lovers can be the address of the new metro movie.
