‘Panta Bhat’, Bengali’s Significant Eating Habit in Summer!

In summer, when the scorching heat and the excessive sweat make us feel nauseous and freckle, our eating habits change. Most people prefer liquid meals to keep themselves fit and healthy, avoiding acidity or absurdity in blood pressure. Yet again, we are fond of rice. Most of us, need to eat rice at least once in 24hours. Hence, appears the significant Bengal culinary, ‘Panta Bhat’.

This dish is quite simple to prepare and fuss-free to eat. It fulfills our rice cravings and simultaneously keeps us hydrated and cool from the inside. Usually, the leftover rice of the previous day is used for making this dish. Surprisingly, it contains more micronutrients than any fresh and hot bowl of rice. It is prepared by soaking the rice overnight, while the fluid that still remains is referred to as the Torani.

 

This dish is accompanied by variants. Sometimes mustard oil and smashed Aloo. Sometimes freshly cut onions and chilies. Sometimes, fresh boiled vegetables, etc. The only thing that is constant is the salt, making the dish nutritious yet tasty. Indeed, a perfect balance for our taste buds. At the same time, you can keep yourself cool and healthy in the humid weather of Kolkata summer.
