Back then in the 19th century, it was one of the non-church cemeteries in the world and the largest outside Europe. In the initial phase, it was a very important place for Europeans who stayed here in Kolkata. But now, this place is no longer been used and currently, it is under the surveillance of the Archaeological Survey of India.
