And one thing that binds the generations together is the club culture. From the most elite ones to the one as casual as a colonial football club. The youth of Bengal takes pride in having the existence of both.

It is not only a unique but very loved culture of Kolkata. The people of Kolkata are so actively involved in the club culture that they have kept the essence of this culture alive till now.

 

The Elite Clubs of Kolkata

1. Tollygunge Club

Ranked among the top 20 clubs of the world, Tollygunge Club has fame and 220 years old name. Be it sports like golf, tennis, squash, swimming, riding, and so on, or entertainment around the year, the Tollygunge club offers an array of activities and lifestyles to Kolkatans.

 

2. The Bengal Club

Opened in 1827, the Bengal Club in Chowringhee Road, Kolkata has been catering to the elites of the city for generations. Bars, gymnasiums, libraries, built-in colonial style is the specialty of the Bengal Club.

 

3. The Calcutta Club

The Calcutta Club in Elgin, Kolkata is although not the oldest, but is one with a rich history. The Viceroy of India, at that time, wished to invite Rajen Mookerjee to dine at the club. But this opposed the discriminatory policy of the Bengal Club which only allowed white men at the time. Therefore, this club was formed to offer memberships irrespective of race.

 

4. Dalhousie Institute

Dalhousie Institute, Ballygunge reinvented recently to cater to its members from all verticals. It is the only club in Kolkata that hosts three live music nights. With breathtaking views, activities, offerings, and unique entertainment, the members of the club take delight in various activities arranged by the club.
