Among the people of Kolkata, they often engage in heated debates to prove which part of the city has a better environment, North Kolkata and South Kolkata. Some of us find southern Kolkata a better place for its open and free space for leading a very much sneer-free environment. While at the same time, some of us prefer the rich heritage and the ambiance of North Kolkata. But one thing that all the people agree on is about the lanes of the latter.

Imagine you are coming out of your house early in the morning, walking in the serpentine narrow lanes, you see a queue in front of a municipal tap, people are greeting each other with ‘good morning’ and suddenly engaging in a conversation. You walk through the lanes, you hear someone is singing in their house playing harmonium, that sound suddenly touches your heart and soothes you. The congested and large buildings keeping those lanes aloof from scorching sunlight. You can see a group of old men is sitting in an ‘adda session’ if you put your focus on those conversations you can get astonished as their ‘adda’ is consistent with various topics.

These sketches get embedded to the person, who has experienced even once the lanes of North Kolkata. The lanes of North Kolkata complements its style and if someday we lose the actual patterns of those, the essence of North Kolkata may be lost!
