Be it ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ or ‘Ke Apon Ke Por’, ‘Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ or ‘Mohor’, CID or Didi No. 1, here’s the thing about Indian TV series- They all go on for very long.

If you have closely followed at least one Indian TV soap, you would notice, they start with a bang. The idea, script, character building, storyline, and execution all establish a connection and promise a gripping tale. Every Indian TV serial becomes successful and famous over a small span. The characters and the USP of a show resonate so well with the audience that they almost become a part of our lives. Some shows even give the common man (or woman) in India a dream that they can see whenever they watch the show.

Not for ‘No Reason’

The TV shows in India receive widespread viewership support. In simple words, extramarital affairs, ideal daughter-in-law, Hitler mother-in-law, utopian relationships/ love, Mr. Perfect husband, blah blah blah are a fantasy for Indians. The TV-watching audience loves drama. Thus, the TRPs of the shows go up. When serials get TRPs, channels earn money. More money flowing in, means much more money being invested in the hope to double, triple the earnings.

Nothing New in Plotting the Plot

Writers of these shows are talented and evolved enough to understand that the Indian audience is melodrama hungry. It’s not that they can’t write better scripts. Just that they are made to write family dramas revolving around a handful of family members and a single female lead. The lead is every audience of every house. This way the shows become unrealistically relatable. The members of the family began to identify themselves with the characters. Thus, the story of a serial goes on and on.

Good Things Come in Small Packages

For a show to be Oscar-worthy, it must have a strong script, an unmatchable story, bold characters, and an ‘ENDING’. Because family dramas become part of our lives, we almost latch ourselves to the characters. So, the audience keeps wanting more. They don’t understand how to stop. Neither do the producers want this madness to stop. They summon directors and writers to keep adding to the already directionless plot. The producers need to profit as much as they have already invested in a particular show. And that’s how the characters keep dying, coming back to life, taking a leap, and transforming into an ultramodern CEO from a dehati.

We wish our audiences to develop taste for small but good things! Until then, we are preparing you a list of some amazing Indian series. Stay tuned!
