There has been a lot of pressure on FASTag across the country for a long time. The authority is determined to introduce this service in toll plazas across the country. However, some transport organizations have also objected to this.
But whatever the previous developments, FASTag is being made mandatory for passenger and freight vehicles across the country from 15th February Monday (deadline for FASTag). Earlier, the officials had said that the rule would come into effect from 1st January, but the deadline was postponed to 15th February due to objections from various transport organizations. Earlier also, the deadline given by the Union Ministry of Road Transport had expired.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the FASTag system should be introduced in the country by changing the toll plaza payment system. According to National Roads Authority sources, their goal is to virtually stop cash transactions at their toll plazas across the country.
According to the official’s guidelines, the opportunity to pay cash tolls in multi-lanes was being cut off. This payment cannot be made without FASTag. After that, vehicles that do not have FASTag will have to pay a fine at the toll plaza. You have to count almost double the money. Otherwise, you have to buy a FASTag sticker from Toll Plaza and put it in the car.
It is learned that most of the vehicles in this state do not have FASTag sticker. As a result, the toll plaza on national highways in the state is expected to be overcrowded from Monday.
