Various quarrels with Twitter. Some say that this very popular social media platform discriminates, while others say that it is harsh on the innocent without punishing the real culprits. There have been numerous complaints in India about this, many times it has been demanded that the Indian government should launch its own social media platform.

This time the new social media platform KOO went to meet that demand. According to Union Minister Piyush Goel, he is a genuine Indian. However, he also tweeted and asked people to affix KOO.!

Twitter has been hostile with the authority over censorship of Twitter’s peasant movement. The officials have warned of proceedings against Twitter if certain documents and accounts don’t seem to be removed. Consistent with the authority, false information about the peasant movement is being spread from thousands of Twitter accounts. Ruling party supporters have also repeatedly complained that their statements are being suppressed on Twitter under the pretext of violating the rules while forgetting to delete much more offensive tweets from rivals. KOO, a microblogging site like Twitter launched in March last year, can tweet in English yet as Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. Available on Android and iOS, 400 characters can be written, its name is KOO. It also won the Central Government’s Self-Reliant India App Challenge. Like Twitter, KOO allows users to follow and unfollow. Text messages can be written as well as recorded, shared in audio or video format.

Probably because of the problem with Twitter, the central government wants to highlight KOO. Union Railway and Commerce Minister Piyush Goel tweeted, “I am now in KOO. Contact me on this Indian Micro-Blogging Platform for real-time, exciting, and exclusive updates. Let’s come to KOO and exchange our thoughts and plans.”

Besides Goel, KOO also has Information Technology Minister Shankar Prasad and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa. It also has accounts of various Central Ministries and Offices including Electronics and Information Technology, Central Board of Indirect Taxes, India Post, MyGovindia, Digital India, National Informatics Center.

The head of The Cabinet also mentioned the KOO app in his Mann Ki Baat radio program. Many of the Cabinet members have recently joined Ku. Apart from KOO, another Indian alternative to Twitter is an app called Tutor, which attracted plenty of attention last year. But in terms of popularity, they have not yet become a competitor to Twitter.
